Hi, I’m Dane. I’m a graduate student in Learning Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
I received a B.S. in Applied Physics and minors in Chemistry and German Language and Literature from Purdue University. As an individual and professional I am many things. I am…
An Educator
I tutored my first German and Calculus students in 2006 as a Purdue undergraduate. Since then I have worked with students across many disciplines, helping to develop their analytical and computational skills. Post graduation, I instructed for two years in the private sector, both in traditional and online capacities.
A Scientist
As a Physics major and researching in an Organic synthesis lab, science has been a major part of my education. I am particularly interested in developing digital best practices for teaching advanced math and science topics.
A Glossophile
Language connects all cultures and I have been fascinated by that connection from a young age. I am a native speaker of American English, an advanced speaker of German, and a beginning speaker of Dutch. I can read the Cyrillic alphabet and have an eclectic vocabulary from various languages.
A Musician
I took up the piano at five and have been playing ever since. I am classically trained and enjoy music from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods – namely Beethoven, Brahms, Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Rachmaninov. Outside of classical music, I listen to electronica, house, spanish guitar, and jazz.
